Questions HR leaders ask before signing
What size employer does Waive serve?
Waive serves employers with 5 or more W-2 employees. Most of our clients are between 10 and 500 employees, but we support groups up to 1,000+ with our level-funded Trident product.
Which states do you operate in?
Waive is a licensed third-party administrator across all 50 states. Specific plan availability varies by state — see /trust/licensing for the complete map.
What does a level-funded plan include?
A Trident level-funded plan includes a fixed monthly cost covering claims funding, stop-loss insurance (both specific and aggregate), and administrative fees. If actual claims come in under projections, you may receive a year-end refund.
How does compliance automation work?
Waive automatically handles ACA reporting (1094-C and 1095-C filings), COBRA administration and notices, ERISA wrap documents, and Section 125 cafeteria plan documents. Filings are tracked in your dashboard with full audit trail.
What happens at renewal?
Renewal pricing is visible 120 days before your plan year ends — line by line, with claims data and trend analysis. No surprise rate hikes the week before renewal.
What are the stop-loss partners?
Waive partners with A-rated stop-loss carriers including Berkley Accident & Health, Tokio Marine HCC, and HM Insurance Group. Carrier selection depends on group size, location, and risk profile.
What's the implementation timeline?
From signed paperwork to live plan, typical implementation is 30 to 45 days. Mid-year transitions are supported with member communications, ID card production, and eligibility loads handled by our onboarding team.
Does Waive handle COBRA administration?
Yes. COBRA notices, premium collection, and reporting are included as part of the Waive platform. No separate vendor, no additional invoice.
